Bodies of missing firefighters found in Wealmoor ruins

Rescue crews have recovered the bodies of three firefighters from the burned-out Wealmoor fruit-and-vegetable packing warehouse in Atherstone-on-Stour.

The three men, Darren Yates-Bradley, Ashley Stephens and John Averis, had been missing until their bodies were taken from the ruins last night.

The families and more than 200 emergency service personnel formed a guard of honour as the three bodies were taken from the scene. All heads were bowed as a mark of respect as the vehicles passed.

A fourth firefighter, Ian Reid, died in hospital following last Friday evening's blaze.

The families of the four men all spoke of their love and dedication for the fire service and their role as firefighters.

Warwickshire chief fire officer William Brown said: "Our hearts and minds are with the family and friends of these local men. The impact of their loss on the community is unimaginable."

The police are continuing their investigations into how the fire started.
