Sharp Interpack producing Mickey Mouse packs for Tesco
Sharp Interpack has produced a two-cavity burger tray in recycled PET to accommodate two burgers in the shape of Mickey Mouse heads for Tesco.
The black tray, which contains up to 72% recycled content, is produced at the rigid plastic packaging firm's Bridgwater, Somerset site. It has a PE coating and is being packed by Tesco supplier Hilton Meats Huntingdon.
The D13 cut size offers easy "a-to-b" de-nesting, which improves palletisation.
The firm has produced tens of thousands of trays so far and the meat packer, which is part of the Hilton Food Group, is using around 2,000 a week.
A spokeswoman from Hilton Food Group said Tesco's Autumn/Winter range of novelty packs was currently under review.
The Mickey Mouse-shaped burgers are available in 70 Tesco stores.
