Danjim halves carrier bag plastic content
Danjim Marketing, the supplier of sustainable packaging products, has developed a carrier bag film that uses half the amount of plastic of a standard product yet does not compromise on quality.
The Birmingham-based firm said the film used in the bags contains 50% virgin material with the remaining 50% made up from 32% recycled plastics and 18% sustainable fillers. It is suitable for carrier bags of 18 micron.
Danjim managing director Shameem Kazmi said: "In tensile and physical tests the carrier bag will perform as well as one made from 95% HDPE."
The firm is working with a Malaysian manufacturer, who will produce 4,000 tonnes of carrier bags each month.
"As well as strong environmental benefits there are cost drivers for retailers: the product will cost around 10% less than equivalent products," added Kazmi.
The firm is currently showing the product to several UK supermarkets.
