Taypack fined for forklift accident

Taypack Potatoes, the Perthshire potato company, has been fined £800 after a forklift truck driver seriously injured another member of staff.

The driver reversed into maintenance engineer Kenneth Marshall, breaking his leg and ankle.

The Inchture company admitted breaching health and safety rules at Perth Sheriff Court earlier this week. Changes have been made to safety procedures in the main shed area.

No-one from the company was willing to comment.

Since 2000 Taypack Potatoes has invested £20m in automation at its purpose-built packaging plant and is one of the UK's leading potato businesses.

It packs potatoes into pre-packs, paper sacks, boxes and in bulk in a range of sizes from 500g up to one tonne.
