EskoArtwork, the packaging pre-production specialist, is targeting packaging and label converters with two new file viewing and management tools for its Backstage workflow software.

Backstage Viewer enables users to detect differences between different jobs as well as compare design elements with the final repro data.

It is started from BackStage Pilot and can, therefore, be used with a PC or a Mac.

The software can read a wide range of file types enabling customer service representatives to check the different file formats they receive through a single application.

The Belgian firm, which was formed by the merger of Esko and Artwork Systems last year, has also developed a "Products" tool for the Backstage software.

Wim Delagrange, Backstage product manager, said the new tool matches the software to the converter's business logic.

"A 'Job' is a temporary 'to-do' with temporary data, while 'Products' are the 'stock keeping units' that are ordered for those jobs," he said.

The "Products" database enables firms to know which products are linked to which jobs, removing the need for copying data and saving disk storage space.

The latest version of Backstage 7.0, released in August, comes with the two new programmes.
