MWV to supply Sharpie packs

MWV, formerly MeadWestvaco, has been named as the supplier of packing for Sharpie Fine Retractable 10-count marker packs by pen manufacturer Newell Rubbermaid Office Products.

US-based Newell Rubbermaid Office Products has chosen MWV's Natralock paperboard-based security packaging to replace the existing mock-clamshell pack.

Sharpie markets packaging leader Randy Canlas said the new pack resulted in a "60% reduction in plastic used" making it "attractive from an environmental perspective".

Jeff Kellogg, vice president, MWV Natralock security packaging, added that "plastic reduction inherent in using Natralock contributes to an improvement in major retailers' packaging scorecard parameters."

The paperboard is made from renewable and recyclable sources and provides greater printing area without compromising security.

It is tamper and tear resistant and can be either heat sealed on existing equipment or RF sealed using approximately a third less of the energy used for plastic clamshells.

MWV employs 23,000 people across 30 countries and serves more than 100 nations. It specialises in packaging for the healthcare, beauty, food, beverage, media and home and garden industries.
