Me&him designs egg box packs for eco toys

Me&him has designed biodegradable packaging for a range of eco toys by traditional toy manufacturer Russimco.

The ‘Gekopaks' are made from moulded, recycled paper pulp, similar to an egg carton, and are formed to fit and protect each toy - saving a third of the cost and space of traditional toy packaging.

A recycled paper sleeve features the graphics and information about the toys.

The Gekopaks were manufactured by HLP, which is based in China but has an office in Birmingham.

Paul Ingle, creative director of Leicester-based Me&him, said: "Creating a box that matched up to the eco credentials of the product was a real challenge, but the light bulb moment came when I was making scrambled eggs for my kids."

The Ecotronic toys are powered by wind-up mechanisms, dynamos and magnets to create electronic toys without the need for batteries.

"Having worked so hard on the toys, we were adamant that the packaging shouldn't include any unnecessary elements," said Sim Oram, founder and director of Russimco, which is based in Taunton.

The Ecotronic range is available in independent and online stores throughout the UK and Europe.
