Smurfit Kappa appoints former Sainsbury's finance chief to board

Smurfit Kappa Group, the manufacturer of paper-based packaging, has appointed Rosemary Thorne to its board as a non-executive director.

Thorne has vast experience as a finance director, working with bookmaker Ladbrokes, Bradford and Bingley and Sainsbury's.

She currently serves as a senior independent director with Virgin Radio and as a non-executive director with Abbey National. She has previously held non-executive director roles with Cadbury Schweppes and Royal Mail.

Chairman Sean Fitzpatrick said: "We are delighted to announce this appointment. Thorne provides us with a wealth of financial and public company experience."

Smurfit Kappa Group operates in 22 countries in Europe and in nine countries in Latin America.
