Innovia Films supplies Superfood Snacks
Superfood Snacks has packed its first product in Innovia Films' NatureFlex biodegradable material.
The US-based raw snack food company said it had chosen the material to meet its aim of using eco-friendly sustainable bags for its Chocolate Goji treats.
The bags are made from metallised NatureFlex laminated to high-gloss transparent NatureFlex film.
NatureFlex is a transparent cellulose-based film made from renewable wood pulp and metallised in-house.
Cumbria-based Innovia Films said it was the only metallised biodegradable film suitable for home composting because the level of metal was less than 0.02%.
Modified coatings ensured "excellent" metal lay-down and adhesion, providing a high moisture barrier, the firm added.
Superfood Snacks founder Adam Collins said: "Superfood Snacks felt this special organic raw product needed packaging that was in alignment with the integrity of the company's visions. One that was natural, sustainable and biodegradable was our goal."
The raw chocolate truffles contain "superfoods" and special ingredients such as goji berries, raw cacao, maca root and sun-dried vanilla bean.
The firm will also use NatureFlex for two new flavours to be launched later this month.
Innovia Films said NatureFlex provided oil and grease resistance and a barrier to gases and aromas. It can be printed using solvent-based, water-based or UV inks.
The firm produces biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and cellulose films at production sites in the UK, US, Belgium and Australia. It employs 1,400 people worldwide.
