Ciba acquisition to boost its food packaging business

Ciba, which supplies coating chemicals to the packaging industry, has agreed to acquire Lamberti Group's photoinitiator business.

The business will strengthen Ciba's offer of UV curing solutions for coatings, inks, adhesives and electronics and expand its range of photoinitiators that are suitable for food packaging applications.

Thomas Engelhardt, global head of Ciba's coating effects segment, said: "We are excited about this opportunity to grow in one of the most important areas of our business. Lamberti offers complementary technologies, particularly in food packaging, and it shares Ciba's commitment to cutting-edge innovation.

"By combining its photoinitiator products and know-how with our own, we can provide a broader, deeper and more versatile range of UV curing solutions to our customers."

Ciba and Lamberti intend to finalise the deal as soon as possible, pending regulatory approvals.
