Unilever to open Polish research centre

Unilever is to open a research centre for liquid foods, including new packaging solutions, in Poznan, Poland.

The centre of excellence will drive project delivery for all wet foods formulations ranging from soups, sauces, bouillons, ketchup and other tomato based products.

It is co-located and interlinked with Unilever's key packaging expertise on flexible materials used in wet processing - retort and aseptic - and cans.

A spokesman told Packaging News: "Unilever's decision to open this centre of excellence in Poznan reflects our strategy to have key research and development sites in key, fast growing economic regions."

The new building and facilities for the department will be ready for use in December and the official opening will take place in the first quarter of 2009.
