Corus to educate consumers

Corus Steel Packaging Recycling (CSPR) has launched a campaign to raise awareness about the recycling profile of steel.

Corus sustainability projects manager Nicola Bennett said CSPR has been working to educate consumers about the types of steel material that can be recycled.

Bennett said CSPR is working on a number of as yet undisclosed projects to engage consumers that will be rolled out over the next few months.

Corus sponsors the Steel Can Recycling Information Bureau (Scrib), which provides information about steel packaging recycling to local authorities, the public and the commercial sector.

Through Scrib, the company has provided workshops to schools that wish to learn more about steel recycling.

"Through the school visits there's been a lot of local community interest," said Bennett, who added that more and more people are seeking information about packaging.

Since Corus set up CSPR in 1998, steel recycling rates in the UK have risen from 25% to 50% in 2005.
