Coca-Cola teams up with Mexican cap manufacturer

Coca-Cola Company has worked with Zeller Plastik Mexico to develop a sports closure for the re-launch of preservative-free sports drink Powerade.

Zeller Plastik Mexico, owned by Global Closures Systems, has worked with sister company United Closures and Plastics in the UK to manufacture the SportsGuard Valve Dispensing Closure.

The 38mm HDPE closure cap has been used for the re-launched 600ml and one litre sizes in the Powerade product range and is a proprietary closure of the Coca-Cola Company.

Zeller has worked with Coca-Cola to design a closure without induction heat seal liners, typically used for hot filling.

Patented drainage channels have also been incorporated into the closure to ensure that cooling water, which drains away after hot filling, drains away cleanly.

Security is provided by the tamper evident band at the base of the closure and a tear strip on the flip-top.

The closure is in compliance with the British Soft Drinks Association's choke hazard criteria for sports drinks closures.
