Staeger launches PET from 100% recycled material at easyFairs
Staeger Clear Packaging is showcasing its PET made from 100% recycled material to the UK for the first time at this year's easyFairs show.
The rPET is suitable for direct food contact and is made of 70% post-consumer waste sandwiched in two layers of reprocessed PET waste from Staeger's own production facilities.
It was first introduced at the ProSweets exhibition in Germany last month and its making its UK debut at this week's easyFairs.
Sales director Jon Bullimore said it was suitable for a wide range of food and non-food applications.
"It can do anything virgin PET can and there is very little difference in terms of the tint to the material. It can also be decorated using a range of different printing techniques," he said.
Staeger is preparing to receive the first of three new tube forming lines at its Coventry facility, on the back of a commitment from a food firm that provided sufficient capacity to justify the investment.
The Piccolo machines are being made at Staeger's Swiss parent company and will be able to produce tubes with a diameter ranging from 30-80mm and a height of between 80-200mm.
"The tubes are built without adhesives and can be used with a range of lids and bases," said Bullimore.
The first line will be installed in the next two weeks and a further two later in the year. "If orders warranted it, we could build further machines within four months," added Bullimore.
