Kodak reveals plans for packaging-focused Ipex launches

Kodak will target the packaging sector at Ipex with plate-making launches that feature direct laser engraving onto flexo forms.

Delegates at a pre-Ipex event this week were given a demonstration of the new system at Kodak's La Hulpe facility in Belgium.

The Flexcel Direct System has been designed to simplify the plate-making process for flat plate, plate on sleeve and continuous sleeve applications.

Kodak claims the process, which will be officially unveiled at Ipex in May, removes the need for chemical processing and improves on-plate performance.

The company also introduced its new Trillion SP plates, aimed at the packaging sector, which can print UV and EB applications without postbaking.

Trillion plates are said to use 25% less energy than previous plates and reduce chemistry by as much as 70% during the plate-making process.

The plates are in beta testing at the moment. They will be manufactured in Europe, China and the US and will be compatible with third-party technology.
