Chronos BTH has completed installation of a packing system for a UK firm that sells bedding materials for farm animals.

RA & CE Platt, based at Llay, near Wrexham, has installed the system to pack a range of fine sawdust and shavings products into as many as 400 bags per hour.

The contract for Chronos BTH was the result of an initial enquiry at the last Interpack show in Germany in 2008 and was part of a site-wide upgrade at Platt’s Llay facility.

On the installation, a volumetric feeder is used to feed products into a tubular form fill and seal bagging machine.

The filled bags are then fed via a conveying system in to a high level palletiser and the loaded pallets are wrapped with a Rainbow stretch hooder.

Platt’s production director Nigel Thedens said: “With product density changing constantly, it is extremely difficult to achieve the same amount of material in every bag.

“Chronos BTH worked closely with Platt’s to resolve this issue and came up with an excellent solution.”
