Robert Audas has returned to Linpac Packaging to succeed Ralf Wunderlich as managing director of the $1bn-turnover plastics group, Packaging News can reveal.

Audas is understood to have been working at Linpac for the past couple of months to ensure a smooth handover from Wunderlich who is taking up a new role with Amcor in January.

In a statement to Packaging News, Linpac Group chief executive Mike Arrowsmith said he was pleased Audas had agreed to rejoin the company.

“Robert has a wealth of experience in the packaging sector, and I am confident he has the skills and experience to lead Linpac’s food packaging business through significant further growth as we continue to focus on delivering superior products and service to our customers.”

Audas previously worked as interim managing director at the Knottingley-based firm in 2006 and 2007, before moving to Europackaging as managing director in October last year.

Prior to that he has also held senior management positions at Guiness and Coca-Cola.

Wunderlich is leaving to go to Singapore to head up Amcor’s new Asia-Pacific flexibles operation following the acquisition of part of Alcan Packaging.

Arrowsmith thanked Wunderlich for his contribution to the firm and wished him well for the future.

Today is the deadline for the European Commission to reach a decision on the Alcan-Amcor deal.

In September, the Majid family bought back Europackaging from the private equity firm the sold it to three years ago.
