Britvic has removed 11,000 tonnes from its packaging since 2000 and is on track to remove another 5,000 tonnes by 2010, it has reported.

The soft drinks giant aims to send zero food and packaging waste to landfill by 2015, it has revealed in its second consumer responsibility report this week.

By December 2010, the soft drinks giant hopes to remove 5,000 tonnes of packaging from its range and complete an rPET trial using UK-only recycled content.

Switching to returnable pallets, which can be used to display goods in store, has saved the company approximately 70 tonnes of corrugated board and 89 tonnes of shrink wrap in the past year.

The company has also looked at lightweighting its packaging, for example it has removed four grams of plastic from its Drench water bottles.

Britvic has also adopted the Recycle Now logo across its portfolio, to indicate to shoppers what can be recycled.

Britvic has reduced the amount of waste it sends to landfill by 13.8% in the past year, while recycling of waste has increased 57.3% since 2007.

Britvic’s drinks portfolio includes: Robinsons, Tango, J2O, Fruit Shoot, Pepsi, 7Up, Gatorade, Lipton Iced Tea and V Water.
