Catalent plans to double output with Bobst spend

Pharmaceutical and IT packaging group Catalent’s Dublin carton facility is looking to double output following investment in new print and packing equipment.

The facility has traditionally specialised in short runs, but has embarked on an investment programme in recent months to enable a change in strategy to long-run jobs.

The latest addition to the factory is a Bobst Cartonpack GT that packs folded and glued cartons into secondary packaging and, according to Bobst’s website, can handle up to 200,000 boxes per hour.

Its installation follows the purchase early last year of a 10-colour KBA Rapida 106 press.

Catalent Pharma Solutions business development director Diarmuid Wilson said: “Our plan is to double output over the next two years, with a large part of the increase being in high-volume commercial work, which is very different to our established short-run work.”

The Cartonpack GT is fitted to a Bobst Media 100 folder-gluer, one of three on the site; a further Bobst folder-gluer and diecutter are also due to be installed in the coming months.
