The Bristol-based plastic packaging arm of Chevler Packaging has ceased trading with the loss of 38 jobs, after administrators were called in last week.

However, the company’s South Wales-based paper packaging business continues to trade as a going concern, with 56 members of staff being kept on while a buyer is sought.

Administrator Richard Hawes of Deloitte told Packaging News: “There has been interest in both parts of the business. We hope that in the next week or so we will be able to announce a sale.”

The company, which handled short-term work, was hit by a downturn in volumes, he added.

The Buckinghamshire-based company, which is reported to have an annual turnover of more than £14m, called in administrators on 10 February.

In February 2007, the company closed its cartonboard operations after failing to find a buyer.
