Chivas Brothers invests in traceability systems

Whisky distiller Chivas Brothers has ordered traceability equipment for all 16 of its production lines at its facility in Kilmalid, Dumbartonshire.

The distiller has ordered 16 case labellers and six pallet labellers from Logopak International so the company can identify and trace pallets and cases throughout the supply chain.

Chivas Brothers have made the investment in response to growing international trade.

“Traceability for the whisky industry has become increasingly important as international trade in complete pallets and cases has increased,” said Logopak UK general manager Wilson Clark.

“It means that the filler can readily identify product that may have been sold on to a third party by the original purchaser,” he said.

Logopak will install Logopak 515 case labellers onto 16 production lines at the Kilmalid plant. These will run at speeds of 50 cases per minute and produce EAN 128 labels with works order number, lot code and a sequential number.

The six Logopak 920PF pallet labellers will print labels with unique serial shipping container codes (SSCC) that will be applied to the adjacent sides of the pallets.

Chivas Brothers will store the information via a central system for future reference.
