Complete Core takes storage in-house in 250k spend

The Pontypridd-based business has rented a warehouse unit in Hepworth Park, Llantrisant to focus on storage and distribution, which had previously been subcontracted to a third party.

Complete Core managing director Stephen Nicholls said that following the success of the subcontracted storage, the company decided it was worth “taking it back under our roof”.

The company has also announced a 20% increase in turnover between 2008 and 2009, going from £2.4m in 2007/8 to £2.8m in 2008/9.

The firm also offers hand assembly, shrink wrapping, strapping, vacuum packaging and contract filling for bags, bottles and containers at its Pontypridd site. Customers include Imperial Group, Sonistics, Zenith and Protexin.

Nicholls said that contract packing is “quite a buoyant market” at the moment. “I do not know if it is a by-product of the credit crunch,” he added.

Nicholls explained customers were “less likely to invest” in machinery and personnel at present and companies are tending to focus on their core business.

Complete Core’s £250,000 investment in the facility comes after the BCMPA hailed 2008 a “good year” for the contract packing sector, despite the recession.

The association identified the expansion of services offered by members as companies look to outsource peripheral operations as a key reason for the sector’s strength.
