DS Smith performance ahead of last yearliz.wells@haymarket.com, 25 April 2008Be the first to comment on this article DS Smith said it continued to benefit from the recovery of higher input costs in corrugated packaging and the strength of the euro. However, in a trading update release today ahead of its preliminary results, the company said it expected the market to become harder. "We are preparing for a more challenging trading environment in 2008/9. We have confidence that our good market positions give us a strong base from which to compete," it said. It added that prices of case material have "softened'' because of slowing demand. The company reported that trading in the second half of 2007/8 had been in line with management's expectations.
