Easypack has claimed to have become the only UK company to offer packaging, point-of-purchase print and fulfilment from a single site after opening a new co-packing facility.

The Mildenhall, Suffolk-based firm, which has turnover of around £6.5m, opened the facility two weeks ago and is also planning to take on new warehousing and distribution capacity in the New Year.

The opening of the 1,000sqm facility comes at a time of growth for Easypack, which specialises in corrugated cases. In April, it bought litho print firm Rapide and has now moved that business into its Mildenhall site.

The site also houses point-of-purchase division Pop Displays, which creates point-of-sale packaging and pre-filled display units for firms including Tesco, Asda, United Biscuits and Burton’s.

Chief executive Chris Hall has now merged the three businesses into one. He told Packaging News that he was now aiming for a turnover of £10m within the next five years.

He said: “I believe we are now the only the company in the UK that can manufacture commercial print, carton board packaging, corrugated packaging and POP Displays all from one site with the added benefit of co-packing/fulfillment  services as well.”

Hall, who became managing director of Easypack 12 years ago and later launched Pop Displays, added that he was confident that smaller firms like his would weather the current financial storm.

“Promotions are reasonably strong at the moment because often in a downturn people work harder to display their products. We’ve had our best ever start to the year in terms of displays.”

He added that competition from the Far East was slowing but that UK firms were able to offer better turnaround and higher quality than distant overseas competitors.
