Eden Project displays plastic bag Christmas tree

Cornwall’s Eden Project will be lit up by a 10m-high Christmas tree constructed from plastic bags this holiday season.

Approximately 22,500 recycled plastic bags have been used by Eden staff and visitors to construct the tree, which was designed by Artist Pete Hill.

Antonia Atha and Sue Hill assisted in the design of the tree, while Lucy Gaskell designed the lighting.

Recycled industrial cling film has been used to build the angel’s body, while recycled milk bottles make-up the angel’s hands.

An Eden Project spokesman said the tree was “an environmental alternative to a real tree” as it meant they did not have to import one.

Last year the Eden Project featured a knitted tree.

The tree will be lit in the evenings from today (19 December) until Sunday January 4, excluding Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
