Dairy products producer Emmi has relaunched its Caffe Latte iced drink with a lid featuring a sipping hole.

The company said it has integrated the sipping hole for on-the-go consumers.

Emmi UK managing director Julie Plant called sipping holes “one of the greatest innovations in packaging technology”.

“We can now offer busy customers drinks in a more practical cup with a lower risk of spillage,” she added.

The stackable lid can also be used as a coaster for the drink when the consumer is sat down.

Plant predicts that iced coffee will become the next big thing in the UK following Switzerland’s example.

She said that if the Swiss levels of consumption were replicated in the UK this would equate to a potential market of 240m cups worth £261m.

Emmi launched its Caffe Latte range in the UK three years ago.

The new pack is being rolled out to Waitrose, Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and convenience stores from 2 February.
