Frozen food giant Findus Group is to bolster packaging’s role in its marketing after appointing Barry Pamplin from United Biscuits (UB) to head up its packaging strategy.

Pamplin joined the business in June in the new role of packaging and technology director after nine years with United Biscuits, where he was European packaging technology controller.

In his new role, Pamplin will report to Findus Group chief marketing officer Leendert Den Hollander, who joined the business in late 2009 from FMCG giant Procter & Gamble.

Den Hollander told Packaging News: “Our ambition is to make frozen food more appealing for current and new consumers. Within this, packaging plays a crucial role and we do see packaging as a future source of competitive advantage.”

Pamplin will work in conjunction with Findus’ category managers on packaging technology such as new materials and designs. He will also have a remit to improve the use of all types of technology for production, packing and filling across the Findus business.

He said: “My role within Findus Group is to drive the packaging strategy and raise the profile of packaging internally, strengthen the packaging capability and provide a vision and strategy for packaging.

He added: “Externally, I want to make sure that packaging innovation is a key part of our marketing strategy and continue my personal aim to promote and educate on the role of packaging with the consumer.”
