Packaging manufacturers could cut their water bills by as much as a third, according to Envirowise, which launched a water saving campaign this week.

Rippleffect is a national initiative from Envirowise to help manufacturers to understand their water use and learn how to reduce it.

The campaign follows the publication of research carried out by Envirowise which shows 85% of those surveyed do not have water reduction targets in place.

Envirowise estimates that companies could save up to a third on their water bills by managing them more effectively.

Under the scheme, manufacturers can get free advice on water saving from Envirowise until 14 September.

The Rippleffect programme is delivered in three online modules over a six-month period to help businesses benchmark their water use, identify cost savings and set targets.

The course will include information on water efficiency, rainwater harvesting, vehicle washing and boiler and cooling tower operation.

Envirowise water specialist Claire Sweeney said: “With more than 9.8 billion cubic metres being used nationally each year, there is significant potential for businesses to save money and reduce their environmental impact by taking action on water efficiency.”
