Gerrisheimer reports third quarter increase in net loss

Gerresheimer, the German pharmaceutical packaging specialist, has reported an increase in net loss to EUR22.8m (17.7m) for the three months to 31 August.

However, the Dusseldorf-based company said sales for the period rose 7% to €268m (£208.5m), compared with €250.1m in the third quarter of 2007.

Dr. Axel Herberg, said: “By focusing on the markets of pharma and life science we have realised above average growth this quarter. We are bucking the current negative trend in the global economy and showing that we are a strong company which continues to grow profitably even in difficult times.”

Gerresheimer produces glass and plastic medicine bottles, drug delivery systems, sterile syringes, inhalers and vials.

It employs more than 10,000 people in 40 locations in Europe, the US and Asia.
