Gerrit Heske appointed Ball Packaging Europe president

Michael D Herdman has moved from his position as president of Ball Packaging Europe to take up the new role of chief commercial officer.

Heske, 44, has been with Ball since joining the Braunschweig metal drinks packaging plant in Germany, where he worked in a range of roles including head of quality assurance and vice president for manufacturing and technology.

Most recently he was executive vice president and chief operating officer for Ball Packaging Europe.

Herdman returns to the US, where he started at Ball in 2004 as president of the metal drinks packaging operation. He has been in the sector for some 37 years.

Ball produces a range of metal and plastic packaging products for the food, drink and household beverage market and is a major supplier of aerospace technology to the US government.

It employs more than 14,000 people worldwide and recorded $7.6bn in sales last year.
