Pharmaceutical packaging machinery specialist the IMA Group has acquired PharmaSiena for EUR1.3m (1.1m).

The acquisition will add filling machines for ampoules and syringes in aseptic environments to IMA’s portfolio of automatic equipment for the pharmaceutical and tea packaging markets.

IMA Group has acquired 51% of PharmaSiena through its subsidiary IMA Life and has the possibility of buying a further 19% of the company over the next three years.

IMA chairman and managing director Alberto Vacchi said the acquisition “confirms the group’s desire to continue growing externally” in these difficult economic times.

Vacchi said that the acquisition strengthened its leadership in the pharmaceutical industry, “as it can offer itself as a sole provider for all of the customer’s needs” and “confirms its policy of making extremely targeted acquisitions with a view to developing the group”.

IMA Group operates 17 productions sites across Italy, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, the US, India and China.

Siena-based PharmaSiena was established in 1997. The company reported EUR1.5m sales in 2008.
