The Berkshire-based digital print firm has installed thick substrate mode kit from HP to its HP Indigo 5500 press so it can run packaging substrates.
Testing has proved that the press will run substrates up to 505 microns, up to 55 microns more than Hewlett Packard originally thought possible.
Cartonboard and acetates have been run through the machine, but the company is open to test running further substrates.
The kit also means that Image Evolution can print graphics and unique codes in one pass, even in large volumes.
So far, the kit has been used to manufacture marketing materials, such as personalised chocolate boxes, but the company plans to target the medical packaging market.
“With one pass of the sheet we can print a normal four-colour job with personalised information,” explained sales director Gary Mitchell.
