Ineos Chlor to build EfW plant

Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks said yesterday (16 September) that it was important to move forward in tackling the UK’s waste problem.

“The proposed plant will make use of local waste for the production of energy rather than contributing to landfill,” he said.

Wicks acknowledged the plant had been controversial locally, but the approval took into account all the concerns raised.

Meanwhile, the Competition Commission (CC) has provisionally concluded that BOC’s acquisition of Ineos Chlor’s chlorine packaging and distribution division would damage competition in the packaged chlorine market.

Ineos Chlor is the UK’s sole chlorine manufacturer, at the Runcorn site.
