Integrated Packaging supported by Benson Group after fire

Integrated Packaging, the chilled food packaging specialist owned by Benson Group, has resumed production after a fire tore through its compressor room and disrupted printing operations.

Printing operations were disrupted for several hours at the Gateshead site last week (14 May) after a small localised blaze was extinguished by local fire services.

The cause of the fire is as yet unknown, but an electrical fault is suspected.

Integrated Packaging general manager Andrew Pybus said staff at the site put disaster recovery plans into place immediately to ensure production deadlines were not seriously affected.

Pybus said Benson Group colleagues at food packager Print Design and Graphics in Newcastle accepted pre-press electronic files from Integrated and carried on printing so production was only briefly interrupted.

Integrated Packaging, whose customers include Bakkavor and Northern Foods, was established in 1977 and has a turnover of £18m.

The Benson Group is headquartered in Bardon, Leicestershire, and also owns pharmaceutical packaging company Medica Packaging in Crewe, PDG in Newcastle and Benson Box at the Bardon site.
