Kenross Containers, a Lancashire-based paper and cardboard packaging company, has been hit by a landslide triggered by torrential rain.

Workers were turned away from work yesterday morning after trees and sodden earth collapsed onto the firm’s Kippax Mill premises.

The landslide, the aftermath of which was caught on camera by the Manchester Evening News and posted on YouTube, barraged the side of the packaging firm’s warehouses and smashed into piles of pallets after the hills behind the Kencross Containers factory gave way under the weight of the rain water.

Staff have since returned to the premises and the business is trading. Managing director Darren Turner was unavailable for comment at the time of publication.

The Environment Agency issued a severe flood warning for the area, which has suffered extensive chaos, including flooding roads and homes in the Bolton area and causing delays on motorways.
