Thermoforming firm Leeways Packaging has acquired the machinery assets of Chevler Packaging’s plastics business, which ceased trading in February, for an undisclosed sum.

The company said the deal would allow it to manufacture a larger portfolio of bespoke and standard packaging, therefore enabling to secure new contracts and create new jobs.

It declined to give further details of the acquisition.

Tony Walding, chairman, told Packaging News: “Although this is a tough time for manufacturing in the UK, the management team at Leeways have taken a strategic decision to invest in these trying times with a view to building an even stronger business to ride out this recession and emerge a better company.”

Gloucestershire-based Leeways manufactures packaging for direct food contact.

Chevler Packaging went into administration in February. The Bristol-based plastic packaging business ceased trading in February, while the cases business was sold to its former management team a few weeks later.
