In a trading statement released in December, the packaging manufacturing and distribution group said Bloomfield Supplies had performed well since the takeover in October 2006 and this had encouraged the board to pursue further acquisitions in 2007. However, Macfarlane said profits had not matched expectations in its distribution business and demand was sluggish in labels and in the US.
