Mondi commits to future of Bux corrugated site

Mondi has ended weeks of speculation about the future of its Bux corrugated site by stating the site “remains an integral part of the business”.

The future of the Bux site was placed under question at the start of May when Mondi revealed that it was looking at a number of options for the plant in Norfolk, including a possible sale.

Mondi UK box plants managing director Steve Moss has now exclusively told Packaging News that the company has completed its review of the Bux site.

“The company can confirm that in line with its strategy for the UK market, the Bux site remains an integral part of the business alongside the March and Mold factories,”
said Moss.

“This enables Mondi to continue to offer the highest levels of service on a wide range of high-quality corrugated products from its three dedicated UK box plants.”

Sources had speculated that a Birmingham-based company that sells both packaging machinery and materials was in talks to buy the Bux site from Mondi.

The speculation followed a period of restructuring at the company, which has recently sold three plants in France – two to Spanish group Europac and one to Belgian group VPK – and closed its Hypac corrugated box plant in Scunthorpe.

Mondi Packaging Bux, which is based in Diss Norfolk, produces a range of trade packaging products such as large double wall cases, self storage cases as well as tear tape and large rotary die-cuts.
