Mondi has admitted to considering “a number of options” for its Bux corrugated packaging plant following speculation it could sell the Norfolk facility.

Mondi would not confirm speculation it was planning to selling the plant to a Midlands-based packaging firm.

However, in a statement to Packaging News this morning, Mondi said: “We are looking at a number of options for the Bux site. We are in discussion with employees and their representatives about these options.”

Mondi Packaging, Bux, which is based in Diss, Norfolk, produces a range of trade packaging products such as large double-wall cases, self-storage cases as well as tear tape and large rotary die-cuts.

Sources have speculated that a Birmingham-based company that sells both packaging machinery and materials is in talks to buy the site from Mondi. However, directors at the company could not be contacted for comment this morning.

Speculation over the future of Bux comes amid a period of restructuring for Mondi. It has recently sold three plants in France – two to Spanish group Europac and one to Belgian group VPK, and has also closed its Hypac corrugated box plant in Scunthorpe in the last month.
