New RPC offerings launched at Luxepack

Newly-restructured RPC Bramlage-Wiko launched two new solutions for the luxury packaging market at Luxepack in Monaco last week (28-31 October).

EcoCoat uses an over-moulding technique, usually used to give bulk to a product, as an alternative to varnish.

The part is over-moulded with a thin layer of polymer in the same press as it was originally moulded, so the piece does not have to moved elsewhere for varnishing.

The thin over-moulded layer acts in the same way as a varnish. However, RPC is still working towards achieving the same scuff-resistance levels as varnish.

RPC has also worked with Swarovski to automate the application of Swarovski stones through a system called Hot Fix.

The stones are placed on a transportation material in the desired pattern. This is then transferred to the pack using a heat transfer system similar to foil blocking.

Both EcoCoat and Hot Fix were officially launched at Luxepack and are not yet in commercial use.

Swarovski has also partnered with St Gobain to create a fully-automated process to apply Swarovski elements onto glass flacons for medium to high volume projects.

RPC Bramlage-Wiko consolidated its cosmetics and personal care business at the start of October by combining with RPC beauté.
