Macfarlane bids to build e-trade

Macfarlane Group could make more acquisitions this year on the back of last year’s £2m purchase of Bloomfield Supplies.

In a trading statement released in December, the packaging manufacturing and distribution group said Bloomfield Supplies had performed well since the takeover in October 2006 and this had encouraged the board to pursue further acquisitions in 2007.

However, Macfarlane said profits had not matched expectations in its distribution business and demand was sluggish in labels and in the US.

The company said it would invest in e-commerce to boost growth and profits for 2007, and strengthen its management team.
