Diageo expands Glasgow to meet growth

Diageo, the world's biggest drinks firm, is to invest £10m in its Shieldhall bottling facility in Glasgow to keep pace with demand for whisky from overseas markets.

Shieldhall, the largest plant of its kind in the industry, bottles Diageo's high-volume Scotch whisky brands.

The investment will create 150 new jobs at the site, expanding the workforce to 800 and adding 4.8m cases of extra capacity at Shieldhall to meet growing demand from India, China and Russia.

The firm will upgrade an existing line to run 300 bottles per minute, install a new line to deal with burgeoning sales of Johnnie Walker products, and install two new cartoners.

A new malt distillery is to be built at the preferred location of Roseisle, on Speyside.
