Cook Trading fined for packaging waste breaches

Cook Trading, a manufacturer and retailer of frozen foods, has been ordered to pay almost £3,000 for breaching the Producer Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Regulations.

Sevenoaks Magistrates Court fined the Tonbridge-based firm £1,000 for six cases of failing to comply with the regulations to recycle and recover packaging waste from 2005 to 2006.

It was also instructed to pay £1,280, in costs, and compensate the Environment Agency with £1,536.

The sentencing magistrates took into account the firm's early guilty plea and the swift response when it was made aware of its obligations.

Cook Trading told Packaging News that it was unaware of the regulations, but as soon as it became aware it started to comply.
