Packaging Corporation of America agrees pay deal

Packaging Corporation of America has agreed a five-year pay deal with the United Steelworkers Union which gives more than 1,200 workers a 14% increase over the life of the agreement.

The deal with the manufacturer of containerboard and corrugated packaging, which covers employees at four paper mills, also includes a healthcare plan.

Leo Gerard, president of the Steelworkers union, said: "This global agreement is the latest example of how we are moving national paper bargaining forward and making a difference on behalf of our members in the industry.

"This type of agreement not only helps provide economic and job security for our members, it creates a more positive relationship between the union and the company."

The agreement covers workers at PCA plants in Georgia, Tennessee, Michigan and Wisconsin.
