Protective packaging and technical laminates producer Walki Group has acquired Ekopak-Jatne, the Polish producer of ream wrapping material.

Ekopak-Jatne operates from a production facility in Jatne near Warsaw and has operating sales and distribution companies based in France and Russia.

The company serves the large copy paper manufacturing market with customers including International Paper, M-real and UPM-Kymmene.

It will be incorporated into paper packaging division of the Walki Group.

Walki Group president and chief executive Leif Frilund said the company viewed the acquisition as a "bridgehead into the Eastern European market".

Ekopak-Jatne founders Stefan Maciejewski and Andrzej Kostrzewa will continue to work for the business.

Walki Group currently manufactures ream wrapping materials in Finland, Germany, Sweden, China and the UK.
