Raw material costs force Pregis Protective price rises

June 16, 2008 Comments Off

Pregis Protective Packaging is to raise prices by up to 10% in Europe, depending on product, to combat “unprecedented” increases in the costs of raw materials, freight and energy

The firm, which will also introduce a fuel surcharge programme, said the price of intermediate crude oil had more than doubled since May 2007, while the cost of low-density polyethylene resin had increased by 19% since January 2007.

Fernando De Miguel, president of Pregis Protective Packaging Europe, said the increases were inevitable despite “exceptional achievements in operational savings”.

Pregis supplies protective packaging products including bubble-wrap, foam and paper fruit pads. The division’s UK distributor is Ambassador Packaging in Winsford, Cheshire.

Protective packaging is one of Illinois-based Pregis Corporation’s five product divisions, alongside rigid food packaging, flexible packaging, Hexacomb products and hospital supplies. The group has 47 plants in 18 countries, and reported sales of $980m (£500m) in 2007.
