Food service and dairy food packaging manufacturer Seda UK is to invest 12m in its South Wales facility over the next four years to increase capacity and create 26 new jobs.

Seda’s Blackwood site produces a range of paper cups and containers for fast food outlets and vending machines as well as packaging for the dairy sector.

As part of the investment programme, the firm has already invested £2.5 in a new carton production line and a high-speed printing machine.

Managing director Lorenzo Angelucci said the investment would help the plant become more cost competitive.

“It increases our capacity and capability which is important for the medium-term development of the business. It means we can maintain momentum and provide an even better service to customers,” he said.

The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) is supporting the investment.

WAG minister for economy and transport Ieuan Wyn Jones said the investment was particularly welcome in the current climate and said it would “ensure the company retains its competitive edge”.

Italian firm Seda started out in 1964 in Naples producing packaging for ice. It opened the Wales facility in 2004.
