Severnside wins M&S waste processing contractJill Park, 8 June 2009Be the first to comment on this article Marks & Spencer (M&S) has contracted Severnside Recycling to manage its waste and help achieve its ambitious ‘Plan A’ recycling targets. Under the three-year contract, Severnside will be involved in the collection and reprocessing of all of M&S’ waste in the UK, primarily cardboard, plastics and food waste. M&S produced 93,000 tonnes of waste for the 2007/2008 financial year, but Severnside expects to deal with volumes of around 100,000 tonnes per year. Severnside has has formed a strategic partnership with Shanks Waste Management, a company that it has had a long-standing relationship with, to deal with M&S’ food waste. Tim Price, Severnside communications and acquisitions manager said: “Severnside will be doing all the recycling, but Shanks will be dealing with the majority of landfill diversion technologies, such as anaerobic digestion.” M&S head of facilities management Mandy Keepax said the partnership with Severnside and Shanks would help “move further towards our key Plan A environmental commitment to send zero waste to landfill by 2012.” Severnside operates 16 recycling facilities across the UK. Last month, the firm won a three-year contract to act as a recycling service for the nationwide network of Mothercare and Early Learning Centres. Severnside customers include Arcadia, Next Retail and Tesco. Speak Your Mind |
