New York-based Byrne Dairy has ordered a Sensofill FMa Combi Ultra line from Sidel that incorporates Predis dry perform contamination system.

Byrne is the first American dairy to adopt the Predis system, which will be incorporated into the Combi line.

The bottle blow moulding line will run at 18,000 bottles per hour.

Predis is a dry decontamination system that sterilises PET preforms instead of the bottles without using water. It requires little chemical consumption and creates no liquid effluent.

Byrne Dairy president Carl Byrne said there was no other option: “With the desired ESL, a lightweight PET bottle, no waste water, and no empty bottle handling, there was no question.”

The line will produce ESL milk, flavoured milk and coffee creamers in 8, 12, 32 and 64 oz. sizes for customers in the Eastern US.

Sidel, a division of Tetra Laval, employs 5,500 people around the world.
