Absorbent materials specialist Sirane is looking to kick off the new year with European expansion after recruiting its first full-time employee to focus on French sales.

Veronique Richard has joined the Telford-based business to handle the company’s French business. Her appointment is the first step in a planned expansion into a number of other European markets.

Managing director Simon Balderson said; “Veronique’s position gives us a model and learning curve in making Telford our European HQ for various country markets.

“Holland, Germany and Poland are all coming on stream now with Sirane representation, and we hope to add to these early in the New Year.”

News of the expansion comes just weeks after Sirane exhibited at the Emballage show in Paris.

It also came as Balderson called on the UK packaging industry to capitalise on its creative and technical expertise to survive the credit crunch.

He said that creativity should be the principal response to the tough trading climate.

“The key driver, of course, is money – and cost savings – and the key response to the challenge, as ever, should be creativity, innovation and a chance to make new products that are fit for purpose,” he said.

The firm has also recently expanded into the US following the acquisition of food packaging and absorbent materials business Thomas and Green.
